Pets Alive = Name Your Price Cat Adoptions!

Pets Alive     363 Derby Road,         Middletown, NY  10940     (845) 386-9738

Two years ago, Paris came to Pets Alive as a young kitten. She's been patient but she'd would really like a place to call her own. Over 200 other cats and kittens are also waiting. To help Paris and the other felines find a home, Pets Alive is having a huge Cat Adoption Event this weekend!  Name your own price!    Visit http://www.petsalive.com/

That's right. Normally, Pets Alive's feline adoption fees are $125, however, for this weekend only, they're asking pre-approved adopters to "name your own price". Each feline is spay or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and is micro-chipped (in the event your pet gets lost, a microchip can help with retrieval).

Check out all the cats and kittens on their website. You must submit an online application so you can be pre-approved prior to the event. Deadline for application: October 7.       Pets Alive is a no kill animal sanctuary located at 363 Derby Road, Middletown, NY. For information about this event, email info@petsalive.com                    Visit http://www.petsalive.com/

New York-Presbyterian Hospital Animal Assisted Therapy

Five campuses in New York         See link below for complete info/

Dogs, Man's best friend plays an important role on our Inpatient Rehabilitation Units. The Therapeutic Recreation department at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital works closely with the Volunteer Department, The Delta Society and the Good Dog Foundation to provide teams of trained dogs to visit patients as part of a therapeutic intervention.

Dogs are now learning to be facilitators in therapeutic settings. Research on the health benefits of animals is extensive and the results are being put to good use.  They are shown to increase social and verbal interaction, to help maintain function and improve ability to perform activities of daily living among the elderly. They has also been shown to decrease loneliness in residents of long term care facilities, enhances relaxation, and the most striking finding is that it lowers blood pressure.

Dogs can give someone a reason to take a walk, improve balance, retrieve objects, sit for a good brushing, or just provide companionship, non-judgmental support, and a fun-loving attitude. We hope to welcome many more visits from our new friends and old friends alike!  Locations, numbers: http://nyp.org/services/rehabmed/contact.html

Brooklyn: 2336 Linden Blvd, Brooklyn, NY 11208
Staten Island: 3139 Veterans Road West, Staten Island, NY 10309

The AC&C Cage Comforter Program enlists volunteer sewers to make small comforters and toys for the kittens, cats and small dogs in our care. Our animals love their comforters!  Visit http://www.nycacc.org/

The comforters not only ease the stress of our homeless animals, they also help to ease the transition when the animals are adopted, because they take their comforters with them to their new homes. Also since they seem so happy lying on their little beds, they are even more irresistible and hopefully have a better chance of being adopted! Because of the number of animals we care for each year many comforters are needed. We are looking for volunteer sewers as well as donations of material, batting and thread. You can also make a monetary donation earmarked specifically for this project. AC&C is a non-profit organization so your donation is tax-deductible, and you will receive a receipt for tax purposes.
If you can help by sewing or donating please email Donate@nycacc.org
Also: We are currently in need of: towels, blankets, canned kitten food i.e. Purina or Iams Pate, and cat litter. You can drop-off or mail your donation to any one of our Animal Care Centers.

Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project NYC

New York City Five Boroughs

Spaying or neutering makes good sense for animals as well as for their humans  and guardians.
Now New York City residents who have a valid Medicaid card can have their dogs and cats spayed or neutered for a special low price: $10 for cats and $20 for dogs.

The Mayor's Alliance and the Veterinary Medical Association of NYC have launched Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project NYC. The project, made possible by a generous grant from Maddie's Fund, helps to reduce the number of homeless cats and dogs in NYC by decreasing the number of unwanted canine and feline pregnancies.
Anyone who lives within the five boroughs of New York City and has a valid Medicaid card can have up to a total of six cats or dogs (or a combination of cats/dogs totaling no more than six) spayed or neutered each year for a special low price at participating veterinarians.
If you qualify or if someone you know qualifies for this important life-saving program, act now to take advantage of this opportunity.

Join all those of us who would like to observe a moment of prayer for the precious animals. We are requesting prayers and/or meditation from 5-6 pm Eastern time on Sunday, October 9, 2016.  This is a multi-faith observance.

We can offer prayers, poems and memorials to our animal or all animals wherever we are..... and also light a candle by doing so.
Wherever you are, if you can observe a moment for the animals who need us. That collective energy will surely grow and bring light to our cause to love, assist and help them from any and all suffering. For poems or additional inspiration, please visit http://www.animalworldusa.org/Inspiration.html
