VegOut NYC Fall Foliage Day Trip!
Walkway Over the Hudson 61   Parker Avenue       Poughkeepsie, NY  12601

Do we really care about maple pecan pumpkin autumnal marketing hooha in all it's many contrivances as brought to you by DuaneReade by Walgreens? No! We care about leaves. Foliage. Fall foliage to be exact. So that's exactly what we're focusing on!

We're going to do this in a very "I've only got one day to get this season in" kinda way. In New York City, usually Spring and Autumn happen during the rinse or spin cycles, right? As Joan C would say, "we don't find the time, we make the time" so that's what this day is all about.

At 212 feet above the Hudson River, this 1.28 mile linear park boasts scenic views north to the Catskills and south to the Hudson Highlands.

Carl Schurz Park Conservancy maintains the Dog Runs. We provide funding for weekly sanitization during summer, and bi-monthly throughout the rest of the year. We rely on donations to keep the dog runs clean and in working order. Funds go towards replacing substrate and repairing walls, fences, benches, gates and drainage. We also buy new materials and tools for basic repair and upkeep.

North Fork Animal Welfare League Riverhead Shelter Campaign

NFAWL  PO Box 297    Southold, NY 11971   Phone: 631.765.1811

The North Fork Animal Welfare League is proud to announce the launch of a capital campaign to move into a new state-of-the-art animal shelter. The new shelter will serve the homeless and lost dogs, cats and other animals of the Town of Riverhead. Help us reach our goal. THE RIVERHEAD SHELTER Campaign.   Please visit

The Riverhead Town Shelter, which has been under the management of North Fork Animal Welfare League since early 2013, is a decades old building in great disrepair, located next to a garbage dump and waste processing plant. Sadly, the shelter is poorly lit and ventilated, and lacks sufficient space for the animals in our care, as well as for staff, volunteers and visitors. Further, there is no space to care for cats, though many are in need of a safe home until forever families can be found.

The AC&C Cage Comforter Program enlists volunteer sewers to make small comforters and toys for the kittens, cats and small dogs in our care. Our animals love their comforters!  Visit

The comforters not only ease the stress of our homeless animals, they also help to ease the transition when the animals are adopted, because they take their comforters with them to their new homes. Also since they seem so happy lying on their little beds, they are even more irresistible and hopefully have a better chance of being adopted! Because of the number of animals we care for each year many comforters are needed. We are looking for volunteer sewers as well as donations of material, batting and thread. You can also make a monetary donation earmarked specifically for this project. AC&C is a non-profit organization so your donation is tax-deductible, and you will receive a receipt for tax purposes.
If you can help by sewing or donating please email
Also: We are currently in need of: towels, blankets, canned kitten food i.e. Purina or Iams Pate, and cat litter. You can drop-off or mail your donation to any one of our Animal Care Centers.

Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project NYC

New York City Five Boroughs
Spaying or neutering makes good sense for animals as well as for their humans  and guardians.
Now New York City residents who have a valid Medicaid card can have their dogs and cats spayed or neutered for a special low price: $10 for cats and $20 for dogs.

The Mayor's Alliance and the Veterinary Medical Association of NYC have launched Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project NYC. The project, made possible by a generous grant from Maddie's Fund, helps to reduce the number of homeless cats and dogs in NYC by decreasing the number of unwanted canine and feline pregnancies.
Anyone who lives within the five boroughs of New York City and has a valid Medicaid card can have up to a total of six cats or dogs (or a combination of cats/dogs totaling no more than six) spayed or neutered each year for a special low price at participating veterinarians.
If you qualify or if someone you know qualifies for this important life-saving program, act now to take advantage of this opportunity.
If you have questions, e-mail The Mayor's Alliance.

Every day during the New York Week for the Animals -- and every day throughout the year -- volunteer-and-dog teams from the SPCA of Westchester will be visiting the residents of various hospitals, nursing homes, living assisted homes. Every day, SPCA volunteers take specially trained shelter dogs or their own dogs to visit the institutionalized in over 40 Westchester facilities, including nursing and retirement homes, hospitals, and group homes and day care centers for the developmentally disabled and mentally ill.

The visits give patients a link to the outside world and serve as catalysts for conversation, physical therapy, and friendship. The program also has the added benefit of making specially trained SPCA Shelter dogs more adoptable. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or sponsoring a Shelter dog as an Outreach pet, click link on website to print and mail us your application, or  fill in an online application that will be emailed to us. A Prayer for the Animals
~An Official New York Week for the Animals event~

We close all Animal World USA International Weeks for the Animals with a prayer and/or moment of meditation and reflection. Join all those of us who would like to observe a moment of prayer for the precious animals. We are requesting prayers and/or meditation from 5-6 pm Eastern time on Sunday, October21st.  This is a multi-faith observance.

We can offer prayers, poems and memorials to our animal or all animals wherever we are..... and also light a candle by doing so.
Wherever you are, if you can observe a moment for the animals who need us. That collective energy will surely grow and bring light to our cause to love, assist and help them from any and all suffering. For poems or additional inspiration, please visit
